There are many new things in our world today that can be a concern to teenagers, and many of them are normalized, or not well known among parents. One of these concerns is sexting. Sexting is when you send illicit pictures and messages to someone through your phone. This can negatively affect teen’s mental health. They can be pressured into sending these pictures and then be ashamed about it. If these photos are then shared, it can lead to so much more than just embarrassment. Not only can it cause harassment and bullying for the teen but it is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to have any nude pictures on their phone.
Why are we doing this?
We want to spread awareness about the negative effects of sexting and what it can do to a person. Many teenagers may think this is a normal thing, because it has been normalized and overlooked by our society as a whole because no one really wants to have those uncomfortable conversations that would just be easier to ignore. Which brings me to our other main focus of this campaign: parents. It is very important to be able to have a relationship with your children where you can sit down and talk to them about these very serious matters. This is one of those conversations that you need to have with your children. We will be informing parents all about sexting and how to have healthy and effective conversations with your kids.
